It was the year Twitter launched, Google bought YouTube, Justin Timberlake released FutureSex/LoveSounds, Katie Couric became the first woman to solo-anchor an evening news broadcast, and Pluto was unceremoniously stripped of its planet status.
Looking back, it's hard to believe that anyone in 2006 could have imagined the state of the world today. But shockingly, it seems like someone might've done just that. Over on Threads, this old Vanity Fair article from December 2006 (published in their January 2007 issue) is going viral for being an EERILY accurate prediction of what America looks like today...
In particular, people are struck by some specific lines from their resident astrologer, Michael Lutin: "Over the next 19 years or so, America as a Cancer nation will have to deal with troubling confrontations and competition such as it has never known, as well as an internal political struggle, all of which will shake us to our very core."
Lutin continues on to say, "The words 'patriot' and 'treason' will lose their meaning, and in some cases, they will become interchangeable. What is treason to one person will be patriotism to another."
He adds, "The country's mood will become darker and much more conservative. It's not going to be a matter of Democrat or Republican anymore, because the new ideologies will bleed across party lines."
"The greatest time of upheaval will be between 2015 and 2019, when the square of Uranus in Aries to Pluto in Capricorn will create the seeds of revolution everywhere."
"The Pluto return of 2025 will demand a redefinition of the United States and create the ultimate identity crisis."
And lastly, this bit: "It is a necessary and inevitable step in the evolution of this country that will result in a reworking of the Constitution in the last half of the 2020s."
